About

Reflexology in Mold

Hello, I'm Steph and I'm the Tŷ Gwyn Reflexologist. I'm based in the Village of Sychdyn, just outside of Mold, Flintshire. I discovered Reflexology after the birth of my first baby and left my career as a Social Housing Officer to retrain very shortly after. I now practice full time from my home treatment room.

I hold a Centralia Reflexology Mastership after studying for a Level 5 Certificate in Practitioner Reflexology. This is the highest level of Reflexology training available in the UK and because it comes under ‘Nursing, Subjects and Vocations Allied to Medicine’ is recognised by the NHS.

I am a full member of the Association of Reflexologists and the Professional Reflexology Association. The AoR was established in 1984 and is a not-for-profit organisation. Today it is the foremost aspirational and independent professional association for reflexology in the UK providing support for more than five thousand members across the UK and overseas. Members of the AoR have some of the highest levels of reflexology qualification in the UK. The letters MAR after their name denotes their membership status – a sign of assurance that they have met the strictest standards of reflexology practice, they are insured to practise and that they are committed to continually developing their skills and knowledge.

Becoming a parent is a life-changing event for most people but for Stephanie Hughes, it literally changed everything.

It was the start of motherhood but also what led to her quitting her almost decade-long job as a housing officer, to starting her own reflexology business.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a non-invasive holistic therapy that involve touching, or applying pressure to the feet to encourage healing and restore balance.

I use the principle that the feet are a microcosm of the whole body; with specific points, or ‘reflexes’ on the foot, corresponding to organs and structures on the body.

Reflexology treats a person as a whole, rather than by their specific condition or symptoms; it is often the case that conditionings troubling a person will be interlinked.

The effects of reflexology are cumulative; full effects may not be seen until you have had four to six treatments.

Professional Reflexology Association

Professional Reflexology

I am a member of the Professional Reflexology Association. The Professional Reflexology Association (PR) is a Membership organisation representing only the best-trained Reflexologists in the UK, founded in 2010 by reflexologists with over 100 years of experience out of a need to raise and maintain the standards of our profession.

Is it for me?

There are one or two exceptions where it would not be appropriate to treat, but these are few and far between and I will always go through your medical history to pick up anything that may prevent treatment prior to touching your feet.

A reflexologist will never diagnose, or offer medical advice; but they will make you feel wonderful.

Clients regularly come to see me to support them during traditional medical treatments for:

  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Fertility issues
  • Pregnancy
  • PMS and Period pain
  • Menopause
  • Migraines
  • Sleep problems
  • Back and joint pain
  • Musculoskeletal conditions
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Cancer care
  • Palliative care

FAQ

My feet are ticklish, can I still have foot reflexology?

Yes! Lots of people have said this to me and, not once, have I found it to be an issue during treatment! Once you are in the zone you will forget all about your previously ticklish feet. I will discuss how things feel throughout and worst case scenario; if you honestly can’t stand it then I offer a “Ticklish Feet Guarantee” so it won’t cost a penny.

I have horrible feet, I am so embarrassed!

Don’t be! As soon as I get my hands on a pair of feet they are no longer just a pair of feet. I have seen it all. People are often very surprised by how much I can tell about them from their feet. It’s completely fascinating; so don’t be embarrassed by a patch of dry skin or a funny coloured nail... they tell me a story!

Is Reflexology for men too?

Reflexology is for everyone; from new born babies to the elderly. It is for people with chronic illness, and athletes at the top of their game.

I’m pregnant, can I have reflexology?

Yes! As long as you have no contraindications and have not been advised against reflexology by your midwife or doctor, then reflexology can be invaluable. I received reflexology throughout pregnancy and in my opinion it helped my physical and mental well-being so much so that I was able to have a perfect and stress free home birth in the middle of a global pandemic.

I’ve been diagnosed with cancer, can I have reflexology?

Yes! As long as you have no contraindications and have not been advised against reflexology by your doctor, then reflexology can be invaluable, ad easily added depending on where you are with your treatment. I have completed specialist training allowing me to give reflexology to clients who have received a cancer diagnosis or are receiving palliative, end of life care.

Can my child have reflexology?

Yes! All under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult care giver.

What do I wear?

Come wearing something comfortable, with easy access to the feet and lower legs. I will ask you to remove shoes and socks. Sometimes feet can be a little slippy after your treatment so socks will provide you with some grip whilst keeping that moisturising medium locked close to your skin.

Are there any side effect?

This varies person to person, and day by day. After your treatment you may feel sleepy, or full of energy, your pain may have gone completely, or you may feel a little stiffer

You may experience one or more of the following:

  • Feeling cold
  • Mild headache
  • Mild tiredness
  • Needing to go to the loo more frequently

All of the above are an indication that toxins are being eliminated from the body. These symptoms should disappear after 24-48 hours. To help these symptoms pass, make sure you drink plenty of water, take gentle exercise, and spend some time relaxing.

Where are you based?

We are a small local business based from our home in the village of Sychdyn, just outside of Mold, North Wales
