Ty Gwyn Reflexology

Frequently asked questions

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a non-invasive holistic therapy that involve touching, or applying pressure to the feet to encourage healing and restore balance.

I use the principle that the feet are a microcosm of the whole body; with specific points, or ‘reflexes’ on the foot, corresponding to organs and structures on the body.

Reflexology treats a person as a whole, rather than by their specific condition or symptoms; it is often the case that conditionings troubling a person will be interlinked.

The effects of reflexology are cumulative; full effects may not be seen until you have had four to six treatments.

My feet are ticklish, can I still have foot reflexology?

Yes! Lots of people have said this to me and, not once, have I found it to be an issue during treatment! Once you are in the zone you will forget all about your previously ticklish feet. I will discuss how things feel throughout and worst case scenario; if you honestly can’t stand it then I offer a “Ticklish Feet Guarantee” so it won’t cost a penny.

I have horrible feet, I am so embarrassed!

Don't be! As soon as I get my hands on a pair of feet they are no longer just a pair of feet. I have seen it all. People are often very surprised by how much I can tell about them from their feet. It's completely fascinating; so don't be embarrassed by a patch of dry skin or a funny coloured nail... they tell me a story!

Is Reflexology for men too?

Reflexology is for everyone; from new born babies to the elderly. It is for people with chronic illness, and athletes at the top of their game.

I'm pregnant, can I have reflexology?

Yes! As long as you have no contraindications and have not been advised against reflexology by your midwife or doctor, then reflexology can be invaluable. I received reflexology throughout pregnancy and in my opinion it helped my physical and mental well-being so much so that I was able to have a perfect and stress free home birth in the middle of a global pandemic.

I've been diagnosed with cancer, can I have reflexology?

Yes! As long as you have no contraindications and have not been advised against reflexology by your doctor, then reflexology can be invaluable, ad easily added depending on where you are with your treatment. I have completed specialist training allowing me to give reflexology to clients who have received a cancer diagnosis or are receiving palliative, end of life care.

Can my child have reflexology?

Yes! All under 16's must be accompanied by an adult care giver.

What do I wear?

Come wearing something comfortable, with easy access to the feet and lower legs. I will ask you to remove shoes and socks. Sometimes feet can be a little slippy after your treatment so socks will provide you with some grip whilst keeping that moisturising medium locked close to your skin.

Are there any side effect?

This varies person to person, and day by day. After your treatment you may feel sleepy, or full of energy, your pain may have gone completely, or you may feel a little stiffer

You may experience one or more of the following:

  • Feeling cold
  • Mild headache
  • Mild tiredness
  • Needing to go to the loo more frequently

All of the above are an indication that toxins are being eliminated from the body. These symptoms should disappear after 24-48 hours. To help these symptoms pass, make sure you drink plenty of water, take gentle exercise, and spend some time relaxing.
